Dreams

For Illustration Friday

I thought about all the objects and characters that have continued to make repeat appearances in my dreams over the years: departed loved ones, my old house, various creatures, etc. (Don't want to get too Freudian here.) I started trying to combine the various subjects into a collage, but it wasn't really working for me. Then, while manipulating a photo of a praying mantis, I decided it looked dream-like enough to go it alone.

I actually do dream about praying mantids fairly often, strange as it sounds. They are my favorite insect, after all.

Super Cute Stuffed Buffalo

As I view other people's Illustration Friday entries, I am often tempted to take a peek at some of their other entries and see more of their work. This was so cute, I just had to link to it.bertha79: Month of Softies: Wild West

Reflection

New artwork for Illustration Friday.

I recently finished this rendition of a playing card in which the two reflecting halves are slightly different. It depicts the rivalry between my sister in law and myself. We actually have a good many things in common, and I wish we could be closer. But there is an unmistakable, (if undefined) animosity between us.

I'm the one with the flying insect, of course.

My sister in law is holding a healing crystal. Our hair is also different, but other than that, the two halves of the card are the same; a reflection of sorts.

(I really wanted to make a "rollover" effect for this, so you could see both views of the card with a simple pass of the mouse. I found several tutorials online and spent hours trying to make them work, to no avail. I just don't have the technical background to make sense of it. So, if anybody can help me out with this, I'd really appreciate it.)

The Little Fantasy House-Thingy

This was an upainted plastercraft piece that I bought several years ago, and painted most of it few years ago, and I just finished it this week (finally!) after finding the proper motivation. (I decided to give it to someone.)

But before I brought it to its new home, I took some pictures to remember it by. I decided to photograph it outdoors, so it would look a little more life-like.

Wisdom

Old artwork for Illustration Friday

This is a poster I made back in 1975. It's an example of the wisdom of an 18 year old who had already been in love 2 or 3 times and knew it all. It even includes a little poem I wrote. I remember at the time, I thought it was quite profound:

The Constant Force is timeless
and will endure,
shining from sunlight and stars,
long after the last machine
has broken down,
forever...

Of course, 30 years later, I can tell you I don't know nothin'.... and when the Constant Force shines down on me, I need sunscreen and a good hat.

For Illustration Friday.

Just something quick and silly today:
