Wacky things running through my head...

This week's Illustration Friday theme is Run. And I have come up with a couple of silly, cartoony ideas.

From the classic telephone prank, "Is your refrigerator running...?"

Inspired by the near constant soundtrack of baseball games on TV at our house: A blimp's eye view of a home run.

Where the #@*&% is the artwork??

I haven't been very productive lately, art-wise. Maybe I'm just having a dry spell. "Artist's block", (you know, like writer's block, only with art.) I'm having trouble with my thumb and wrist, and it hurts to hold a pencil or stylus for very long. Excuses, excuses. I'll get back into it eventually.

In the meantime, here's something old. Not too old. But cute. I painted this little toad a few years ago. It was unfinished plastercraft. It was on a stick, meant to be inserted in a potted plant. I took out the stick, and he sits on a bookshelf.

More pretty food

I love figs!

Colorful jumbles

My eye and is drawn to things in colorful jumbles. Below are a couple of recent inspirations.

This was my breakfast yesterday. It looked so pretty, I had to take a picture of it before I ate it!

Jerry cleaned out his side of the closet and decided among other things, that he didn't want these crochet-covered hangers any more. I'm saving them, though. My Granny made them. She made tons of them when she was in the early stages of Alzheimer's, and it was one of the last purposeful things she remembered how to do.

You can see some other colorful jumbles from previous posts here and here.

For Illustration Friday

I'm getting this in just under the wire, but at least I'm doing something this week.

I used to try catching critters this way all the time when I was a kid. It never worked, though.

Crepe Myrtle Mania

I haven't really felt much like drawing lately, but I figured I would post some of nature's beauty that I have been enjoying lately. I don't know if our recent hot weather had anything to do with it, but the crepe myrtle trees have just exploded in bloom, and now we are having the colorful fallout everywhere.

These first shots are from the arboretum.

Here's some of the "fallout" I was talking about.

I have a white one in my back yard. When the wind blows, the blossoms fall like snow. It's so pretty. I tried to take a picture of them falling, but as luck would have it, the whole time I sat out there waiting, there was no breeze.

In the front yard: these are our "street trees". On a hot evening just before sunset, our tree was literally aglow.

I tried to capture the sunset illuminating the flowers. It gave a magic moment to an otherwise boring suburban street.

Yes, it's blurry. I still like it.

The gutters filled with fallen flowers.

...and so did my car windshield.
