Discovering Shag

This morning, I took Spike, our beloved bearded dragon, to the vet for a check-up. (At 10 1/2 years old, she has been in declining health recently. ) My trusty reptile vet has a new office, and he has decorated it with lots of retro-tiki-style artwork. As I waited while Dr. Greek worked on Spike in the surgery area, I looked at the fun and interesting art on the walls. Most of them were prints by Shag.

So when I came home, I looked up Shag, and found out he is from right here in So. Cal. And apparently his stuff is pretty popular. Here is his website. You can click on different gallery shows to see lots of his work. I liked ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS , which are his stylized tributes to works by other famous artists.

He also has a myspace (well, actually it's not run by him, but it's about him, made by his friends, according to the page. This Shag has quite a following!

One of my favorite pictures in Dr. Greek's office was The Melancholy Wolfman.

Oh, and about Spike: She has a tumor in her mouth and another one at the base of her tail. At this point, Dr. Greek doesn't think she's in any pain. At her advanced age, it's not advisable to do surgery on her. He gave me some medicine for her, and says we can just keep caring for her as we have been, and take it one day at a time.

Reluctantly, I have reinstated the word verification for all comments on this blog. I don't like it any more than you do, but the rate of breakthrough spam was even more annoying. Thanks for understanding.
