Dusting off the ol' stenocactus

This poor old guy has been neglected for a long time. Last year, he didn't even make any flowers. I thought he was going to die. But this year I noticed flowers and fresh new growth, so I dusted the cobwebs away, picked out all the dead leaves that were stuck on him, (not easy, he's sooo prickly!!) and gave him a little drink of water.

  1. Wow, what beautiful flowers. That's what I love so much about cactuses. You can forget about them for some time and usually they are just fine.

  2. Oh wow...how gorgeous!!! Your cactus was sure covered up by the cobwebs and leaves...and you uncovered a great surprise!!! These are neat flowers with the pretty yellow stamen!

  4. Well, being too lazy to go out and actually measure, I'd guesstimate that it's roughly the diameter of a softball, not counting the long poky spines. It's also a little taller that it is around, so like if you stretched out the softball into an oval. The spines are a good 2" long.

Reluctantly, I have reinstated the word verification for all comments on this blog. I don't like it any more than you do, but the rate of breakthrough spam was even more annoying. Thanks for understanding.
